Print / Graphic Designer

The Oakland Institute is looking for a Print/Graphic Designer.

The Oakland Institute is an independent policy think tank bringing fresh ideas and bold action to the most pressing social, economic, and environmental issues of our time. Our research and advocacy work focuses on land rights and Indigenous rights, the theft of natural resources taking place around the world, including through so-called conservation and development schemes financed by international financial institutions and governments. We promote agro-ecological solutions, social and economic justice, and a people-based approach to development. Our work is accomplished through impactful research, compelling publications, and international advocacy campaigns.


Position Summary

We are looking for a talented graphic designer whose primary responsibility will be to design our research and advocacy reports and related materials. Our reports are key instruments for our advocacy and campaign work. They are used for education, information, and advocacy around the world, from Papua New Guinea, Nicaragua, to the Democratic Republic of Congo. They must be engaging, easily accessible, and visually appealing for all our audiences.

In addition to reports, the graphic designer will also manage the creation of the Institute’s brochures, posters, and fundraising letters. This person will be responsible for producing creative designs while adhering to our brand and style guidelines. The ideal candidate should have original ideas, create impressive designs, have an eye for detail and be open to guidance and feedback from team members


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design the Institute’s materials using the texts and visuals (photos, charts, etc) provided

  • Work closely with the Institute’s team to understand creative direction and campaign needs

  • Ensure project needs are fulfilled from concept to completion for digital and print publications

  • Ability to work with a positive outlook


The Desired Candidate Will Have:

  • Attention to detail

  • The ability to work effectively and creatively

  • Strong graphic design, layout, typography, image manipulation, and color correction skills

  • The ability to manage projects from digital to print

  • A high integrity and a commitment to social and economic justice

  • Experience with all aspects of organization branding, web graphic, and logo design preferred


Qualifications:

  • BA degree in Design, Art, Multimedia, Graphic Communications, or related field

  • 3+ years Graphic Design experience

  • Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat required.

Salary: Monthly retainer based on experience
