Website Manager — Job Announcement

Position Summary
Half-time Position: 20 hours per week. Based in Oakland, CA. The position offers flexibility around office hours and location but requires part-time presence at the Oakland office.
The Website Manager is responsible for the Oakland Institute’s website, which brings together research and campaign tools, publications, and other resources on land and Indigenous rights, food, agriculture, and other social, economic, and environmental issues. Our audience ranges from academics, policy makers, journalists, activists, to the general public.
Working in close collaboration with the program staff, the responsibilities include regular content updates, site maintenance and development (both design, and feature development), SEO (analysis and campaign strategy), and email administration.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Lead, create, and implement dynamic strategies across the website that advance the organizational mission, goals, and objectives and ensure that all online content is consistent with the Institute’s mission and editorial voice.

Manage and update website, ensure regular site backups, and that all data is recoverable.

Respond to and troubleshoot website issues, monitor and respond to security threats.

Post and update website content.

Manage email campaigns:

Administer email contacts lists and manage email newsletter subscription forms.

Design and test emails for cross device and email software compatibility.

Manage relationships with vendors and third-party consultants.

Stay up to date on current and new web technology.

Oversee SEO initiatives and develop strategy for first page rankings.
Skills and Experience

At least 2 years of experience in web development, project management, and outreach.

Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills and ability to work with a team.

Technical proficiency in HTML, CSS, open source CMS (Drupal and WordPress), web development experience; familiarity with PHP, MySQL, and Javascript preferred.

Basic familiarity with command line tools, JSON data formats, Git version control system.

Knowledgeable about SEO best practices, Google Analytics/Tag Manager, Looker Studio, and other analytics suites.

Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, or similar software.

Experience with Email Marketing Systems, especially Mailjet. Knowledge of MJML email framework desired,

Familiarity and interest in the social and economic justice issues the Institute works on.
