Iowa CCI plans to counter ‘corporate’ Ag Summit
DES MOINES — Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement plans to counter what it calls a “corporate” ag summit scheduled for early next month.
Instead of the Iowa Ag Summit, planned for March 7 at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, Iowa CCI will hold its own Food & Ag Justice Summit March 6 and 7 at the group’s headwquarters in Des Moines.
The event at the fairgrounds is sponsored by businessman and Republican contributor Bruce Rastetter and has attracted several potential 2016 presidential candidates.
“We hold a deep moral and ideological opposition to Bruce Rastetter’s vision for food and agriculture in Iowa and our nation,” Iowa CCI board president Cherie Mortice said.
Iowa CCI members will be joined by leading experts and organizers in food and agricultural justice from around the country, including Food & Water Watch, The Oakland Institute and the National Family Farm Coalition.
The CCI events include: People and Planet First Social, March 6, 6 p.m.; “Food & Ag Justice Speakout, March 7, 8 a.m.; and Food & Ag Justice Teach-In, March 7, 11:30 a.m.
