In a few days, as the climate talks start in Paris, my heart is full of the stories and hope entrusted to me by family farmers from 20 African countries who have much to teach about preserving our planet.

I feel a great responsibility to reach the ears of those in power with what I’ve learned. And I hope you'll help me this #GivingTuesday with a donation today to help me achieve that goal.

The Oakland Institute just released a set of 33 successful case studies from Africa's family farmers documenting the benefits of agroecology. Agroecology focuses on the food needs of people, reverence for the environment, and an ensured future.

Industrial agriculture has failed us in all three of these areas—and is a major cause of our climate's decline.

Wanton use of pesticides, greenhouse gasses from livestock… not to mention the very immediate assault on the millions of people who are forced off their land so that profit-based industrial projects can launch.

These people are at the center of all our work at the Oakland Institute.
