Sarah Hobson is a Senior Fellow at the Oakland Institute. She brings her long experience of working with community-based initiatives and rural women’s organizations in West Africa, South Asia, and Iran, particularly on issues of sustainable food systems, rural livelihoods, and agro-ecological policies and practices. She is advisor to the Joint Action for Farmer Organizations in West Africa, the Louis Dreyfus Foundation, and Open Channels (UK), and is a member of the Steering Committee of the Africa Grantmakers’ Affinity Group. From 2003-2015, she was Executive Director of New Field Foundation and served as a steering committee member for the Global Alliance for the Future of Food and the AgroEcology Fund. Sarah also served as Executive Director of International Development Exchange (IDEX) and as consultant to the UN’s International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). For many years an independent writer and filmmaker, she has produced a number of television documentaries and published a number of books highlighting the experience and perspectives of marginalized rural communities.
